Top 5 mistakes when dismantling yourself that can be costly

Algorithm of actions during dismantling work

The process itself is a clearly structured work that requires compliance with technology and sequence of actions. In addition, dismantling without permission of load-bearing structures provides for penalties in accordance with the legislation of Ukraine.

Usually, errors during dismantling often occur due to the lack of preliminary preparation of the object. For example, unauthorized dismantling of a partition without taking into account the load can affect the strength of the building, and improperly removed old electrical wiring will contribute to damage to the network.

It is equally important to adhere to time limits - because the noise during the work will disturb the neighbors.

The main stages of the work are as follows:

  • assessment of the object – to prevent damage and minimize risks;
  • dismantling planning – the sequence of work is determined;
  • disconnection of the engineering network – the supply of gas, electricity and water is necessarily turned off to avoid damage to electrical wiring and other systems;
  • dismantling – the old coating is removed, partitions, ceilings are broken, doors, windows, engineering systems are removed;
  • removal of construction waste after dismantling – to prevent the accumulation of garbage at the repair site.

At the same time, even the smallest mistakes during such work often lead to big problems in the form of non-compliance with construction standards. Therefore, it is important to pay attention to those that are considered the most common when carrying out work independently.

What are the most common disassembly mistakes?

Experts call the most significant violation non-compliance with safety rules. Many do not consider it necessary to use protective equipment, and this can lead to serious injuries. Also, do not ignore the preliminary clear planning of dismantling. Errors in assessing the scope of work very often provoke the occurrence of unpredictable consequences.

As for the list of main errors, they can be combined as follows:

  1. Lack of a dismantling project and structural analysis. Before dismantling walls or partitions, you need to make sure that they do not carry the basic load. At the same time, you need to know that the demolition of load-bearing structures is categorically not allowed.
  2. Working engineering networks. Dismantling plumbing without shutting off the water will lead to flooding of neighbors and damage to neighboring premises. A working electrical network poses a threat not only in terms of turning off the light in the entire house, but also in terms of safety for the worker himself.
  3. Working without protective equipment. When starting work, it is extremely necessary to stock up on a helmet, respirator, protective gloves, and glasses.
  4. Incorrect choice of tools. Each individual type of activity requires the presence of special tools that professional workers have. Usually they use jackhammers, metal cutters, electric saws for concrete, wood, etc.
  5. Improper dismantling of walls. The process must be started from the top down to avoid sudden collapse and blockages.

In addition, quite often during such work there is a need to use specialized auxiliary building materials. These can be solvents for old coatings, antiseptics for treating wooden surfaces or glue removers. When dismantling independently without experience, they are not always used, which significantly increases labor costs and complicates the process.

By listening to our advice, you can avoid costs due to mistakes. Following the recommendations will allow you to prevent dangerous situations and safety violations.

And if the work is associated with very complex structures, then in such cases it is still better to contact specialists.
