How a concrete blind area is formed: features of work
To create a blind area, different materials are used - concrete mixture, stones, tiles and even clay. Among all, concrete is considered the most inexpensive and easy-to-work raw material, capable of providing excellent performance properties in the future.
For work, a mixture of cement, sand and water in a certain proportion is initially prepared, or ready-made concrete is ordered in advance. Before pouring, formwork made of boards or sheet metal is installed. The elements are attached using nails or threaded connections, creating a collapsible structure of the required size.
The protective concrete perimeter is laid on a compacted sand base. The density coefficient of such a “cushion” is 0.98, which means the width of the sand layer is at least 10 cm. Filling is carried out with a thickness of at least 5 centimeters, the created surface must certainly be flat. For this purpose, an ironing procedure is performed. The process itself consists of sprinkling 5-7 millimeters of fresh concrete with cement powder and further compacting it using a trowel. This procedure is recommended to be carried out 1-2 hours after pouring concrete.
The concrete blind area is separated from the building by special joints, and separation joints must be made every 5-6 meters. For this purpose, boards treated with an antiseptic with a thickness of up to 2 centimeters are used, which must be installed on the edge.
Surface decoration is also allowed. This could be stone, pebbles or paving slabs.
The key features that experts usually take into account include the following:
- the size of the blind area is calculated so that it protrudes 30-49 cm further than the projection of the cornice, while its width must be at least 1 meter;
- installation is carried out with an inclination angle of 3-10 degrees so that water cannot penetrate into the building;
- if the ground in the area is heaving, then you need to insulate the blind area using heat-insulating material.
As a rule, the blind area is drawn up after all construction and finishing work has been completed.

A construction company providing such services creates a specific list of work required in the process. In this case, the quantity and volume of material, as well as the need to use specialized equipment, are certainly taken into account. As a rule, the cost is often calculated based on a linear meter. In addition, the concrete blind area, the estimate of which is provided to the customer at the first stage, may include the following type of services:
- arrangement of a base made of sand or crushed stone;
- laying borders;
- Preparation of prancing;
- drowning of the blind area.
