Step-by-step process of installing water supply and sewage: what you need to know

13-04-2026

What does the water supply system in a house consist of?

When deciding to provide yourself with water, it is worth considering the main components of the system:

  • the source of water supply - most often it is a well, central water supply or well;
  • a pump or pumping station;
  • pipes that are laid outside the house;
  • a water inlet and connection point to the house;
  • an automatic regulation system;
  • plumbing devices that are installed inside the building.

A convenient option for water supply is centralized supply. It is considered the most budgetary, but it is necessary to obtain permission from the village administration or water utility. In such cases, water meters and the necessary equipment are installed.

Other options for water supply are a well or a well, which are also quite common. The advantages of this method are the ability to access water in the event of a lack of electricity or pump breakdowns.

A well makes it possible to obtain the cleanest water in large quantities. However, its equipment is quite expensive. In addition, it is necessary to purchase additional filters against sand and other impurities in the water.

Features of water supply to the house

The first stage of arranging such a water supply is the development of a scheme. It is necessary to determine how many hot and cold water supply points there will be and where they will be located. In parallel with this, it is advisable to immediately create a drainage scheme. In such cases, it is possible to lay pipes with sealing in the floor, in the walls and make high-quality wiring.

It is also advisable to plan a separate room for a boiler room or technical room. It is there that the automation unit, hydraulic accumulator, heating system boiler, etc. are located. As for the methods of wiring the pipeline, they are performed using a tee, collector or combined system.

How to make a sewer in a house

The main stages of work in this case are as follows:

  • planning - a project of the house and the site is ordered, where water intake points and a place for the septic tank are indicated;
  • choosing an autonomous system - this can be either a storage tank, or a septic tank made of rings, or even a bio-treatment station;
  • carrying out internal sewage with the required pipe slope - in this case, PVC models with a diameter of 110 mm are used for the toilet and 50 mm for connecting sinks or showers;
  • output from the house - pipes are laid through the foundation part, while their laying depth is at least 80 cm (the indicator is the depth of soil freezing in winter);
  • installation of an external sewage system - for this, polypropylene pipes are laid from the house to the septic tank.

Finally, the septic tank is installed - the tank itself is installed and ventilation is arranged.

Sewerage installation: what to pay attention to

  • It is extremely important to install inspection holes in order to be able to clean the blockage in the future.
  • The septic tank must be installed at a distance of at least 5 m from the house and the road, and 30 m from the source of drinking water.
  • Typical mistakes when laying pipes through the foundation are rigidly fixing it in the masonry, which over time can lead to breakage.
  • Using the wrong type of pipes can lead to their rupture and emergency situations during system operation.
  • It is also necessary to connect the pipes qualitatively, using special lubricant and rubber seals.
  • The absence of inspections will not be able to provide an access point for cleaning the blockage.
  • Pipes that will be laid above the freezing level of the soil will freeze at low temperatures.
