07-07-2025

What is the technology of a ventilated facade?

Most often, such a facade is used in new buildings. It is installed on private and apartment buildings, on public buildings and on commercial establishments. They can also be installed for the modernization of an old building.

Structurally, the facade subsystem has the form of a kind of "pie" in several layers. Due to this, the building receives the required level of air circulation. According to the standards, the design of the ventilated facade provides for the following elements:

  • subsystem - a metal or aluminum frame made of profiles, fixed to the wall with a special fastening system;
  • insulation - mineral or basalt wool, which is placed between the ribs of the frame, such insulation under the ventilated facade provides the necessary microclimate in the room;
  • windproof membrane - necessary to protect the insulation from moisture and wind, most often present in the form of isospan or other similar material;
  • ventilated gap - also acts as insulation, preventing the formation of condensation on the walls.

The last, frontal layer is decorative cladding. Usually, composite facades are in the form of metal cassettes, fiber cement slabs, porcelain stoneware or cladding panels made of siding or aluminum composite.

Expert advice: how and when to install a ventilated facade

The arrangement of external walls with curtain walls involves the format of thermal insulation + cladding. Therefore, it is necessary to prepare the main materials in advance for work. Another important question is when to start facade work. Of course, the best season for installation is considered to be the summer period, when there is dry weather outside. However, there are quite often special situations when installation work must be carried out at other times of the year. This may in some way affect the timing of the work, but in general this approach can also take place. The characteristic features of the arrangement of facades in different periods are as follows:

  • Off-season repairs. In spring and autumn, there is a fairly moderate temperature regime and a sufficient number of sunny days. Quite often, work is carried out in autumn as part of preparation for the heating season.
  • Summer. This period is ideal for carrying out work, since in summer it is easy to avoid rain. The exception will be very hot days that slow down the work process. However, it is in summer that scheduled facade repairs usually take place.
  • Winter. Installation of guides and fastening of the facade can also take place in winter. But seasonal discounts on the facade will not apply in such a situation, since such work is considered complicated due to weather conditions.

Considering the above, it can be noted that the optimal period for starting repair work will be installation in summer / autumn. At this time, the most acceptable temperature for installation is established and there are no prolonged rains yet. Therefore, experts consider such installation terms to be the most acceptable.

What indicates the need to install a ventilated facade?

Reconstruction of an existing structure is necessary when its elements are destroyed. Other factors, experts say, include the loss of aesthetic appeal of the house, freezing of the walls and the appearance of mold on them.

Installation of a ventilated facade will also be necessary when the house does not warm up due to a violation of the thermal insulation layer. In this case, it is better to choose a season of the year without severe frosts and humidity to replace the insulation.
