Apartment soundproofing: which materials really work and how much does it cost?

07-09-2026

What materials are used to soundproof an apartment?

The most popular materials used when it is necessary to provide high-quality sound insulation usually include:

Mineral wool

The soundproofing layer, which is made of basalt or fiberglass, has a fibrous structure, thanks to which stable and active sound absorption is achieved. Its advantage is easy installation, aesthetics and a high coefficient of protection against airborne noise. The acoustic properties of the materials allow it to be laid on walls, floors and ceilings.

Membranes

Soundproofing material with a small thickness, used when it is necessary to save space. It is made of new generation polymers with the addition of rubber. Soundproofing membranes are flexible and easy to install. They can be used on any surfaces, including under the final interior decoration and drywall.

Cork panels

This is a natural modern material, the peculiarity of which is the ability not only to create effective acoustic insulation, but also to maintain warmth and comfort in the apartment. Such panels are recommended by experts when it is necessary to combat impact noise, so they are most often installed on the floor. Installation of soundproofing does not involve any particular difficulties.

Acoustic panels

This type of material is specially designed for use in soundproofing. It is made from porous raw materials in the form of polyester, melamine, polyurethane foam. Acoustic panels have an attractive appearance and work well when it is necessary to reduce echoes in a room.

Special soundproofing mats

Vibration insulation made of polymers and rubber, which is usually used in combination with laminate and tiles to protect against noise from neighbors below. It is characterized by durability, easy installation and effective noise absorption in a residential area.

How to soundproof an apartment: basic methods

To install soundproofing in a residential building, a comprehensive approach is required, which includes the installation of frame or frameless insulation systems, laying the material, vibration isolation and sealing of all joints. The features of the work to protect against noise are as follows:

  • Wall. First, the frame is assembled, after which the space is filled with mineral wool and sheathed with sheets in two layers. With the frameless method, sandwich panels are installed directly on the wall using special fasteners.
  • Ceiling soundproofing. The panels or frame are mounted on vibration suspensions with subsequent filling with fibrous material.
  • Floor soundproofing. A “floating floor” system is installed - a mineral slab or a special substrate is laid. A damper tape is laid around the perimeter.

Mandatory attention is paid to the soundproofing of doors. Experts advise installing two structures, one of which will perform a noise-absorbing role, the other - decorative. The doors should fit well and have no gaps.

How to soundproof walls from neighbors

Such soundproofing of partitions will ensure the absence of sounds behind the wall. Most often in such cases, self-adhesive membranes or plates are used, which are installed in a previously mounted frame.

Will such soundproofing of an apartment help from the noise of neighbors? Undoubtedly - if you isolate the sockets on the walls. It is through them that extraneous noise comes from the outside in panel houses. Usually, mounting foam is used for this, which fills the empty space. When choosing foam for work on soundproofing walls, it is extremely important to pay attention to the option of its non-flammability.
