How to insulate a frame house

05-07-2024

Frame houses have long been popular in Ukraine. The advantages of their construction are budget, speed of construction and an impressive design choice. When choosing a specific technology for building a house, special attention should be paid to the selection of insulation. Being a layer between the frame, walls, floors and roof, this material determines the comfort of the premises and the duration of the operational period of the building.

How to insulate a frame house

The presence of insulation makes it possible to maintain the required temperature inside the room. In winter, it allows you to store heat, in summer - provides coolness. Cold or heat usually comes through the floor, roof, windows and walls. Therefore, all parts of the house should be effectively insulated:

Windows. The problem is solved by installing metal-plastic products. Moreover, during the installation process, the windows are supplemented with a layer of insulation in the part of the window sill and ebbs.

Walls. The layer of material used for insulation can range from 50 to 150 mm or even more. It is important to correctly determine the type of this raw material.

Ceiling. In this situation, professionals advise laying insulation with a thickness greater than on the walls. This figure is within 40%-50% of the thickness of the material for wall blocks.

Floors. Installation of insulating materials is carried out according to the selected technology. Initially, a galvanized sheet is laid, on which a waterproofing film is laid. Next, the selected thermal insulation material is laid.

The final cost of insulation work for a frame house directly depends on the type of insulation and the thickness of the layer. The thicker it is, the warmer it will be in the room.

What can be used to insulate a house?

There are many options for materials on the Ukrainian construction market that are used to insulate a frame house. Among the most commonly used are the following:

Foam plastic. A synthetic budget material with a service life of about 20 years. Its characteristic features are low thermal conductivity, low flammability, and low vapor permeability. When heated, foam plastic emits harmful substances.

Extruded polystyrene foam. Also refers to artificial materials, will serve productively for over 30 years. Characterized by insignificant noise insulation indicators, when heated to 70 degrees it begins to deform. Provides resistance to microorganisms, but at the same time attracts rodents.

Polyurethane foam. It is applied by spraying, providing very low thermal conductivity and excellent noise insulation. When insulating cottages and houses, it can last more than 30 years. Polyurethane foam is produced with a cellular structure, due to which it does not allow moisture to pass through.

Mineral wool. It is best suited for insulating frame house walls. Its advantage is non-flammability, low thermal conductivity, environmental friendliness, and high vapor permeability. The service life of this material is at least 50 years.

Sawdust and straw are classified as natural materials. However, their use gives a low-efficiency result, and during operation they quickly shrink.

Before choosing a specific insulation material, you need to take into account the type of house, climatic conditions and the technology of installation of the structure. If necessary, you can ask for help from specialists in terms of the right choice.
